I suspect my parents are among the seven people who regularly read this blog, so I’ll just say up front that I don’t mean to hurt your feelings Mom & Dad, or make you feel guilty in any way for the mysterious circumstances in which the only surviving original artwork from my childhood, a small green clay frog that I “sculpted” in first grade, has vanished. |

The kids in the studio do not believe us when we tell them this is a real telephone! I regale them with nostalgic stories about how in the old days, before computers or video games, you could fill hours every afternoon crank calling boys from school or random strangers to ask if their refrigerator was running. |

I’ve always enjoyed making things. When I was six, my great grandmother taught me how to sew a zig zag, wind a bobbin and gather a ruffle hem – a highly technical skill needed to make a new bonnet for my Holly Hobbie doll. |
